Receiving Reiki — What Might You Experience?

Creating space for peace, relaxation and coming home to yourself.

Have you ever wondered what it might feel like to receive Reiki? Perhaps you have heard about Reiki from a friend, read about its benefits, or felt drawn to experience it yourself, but you're not quite sure what to expect.

One of the things I love about Reiki is that every person's experience is different. There is no right or wrong way to receive Reiki and you don't need to have any prior experience or understanding of energy healing to begin.

For me, a Reiki session is an opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life, to pause, breathe and allow yourself some time and space to simply be. At Soul Journey: The Healing Touch, I aim to create a calm, welcoming and nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable, supported and free to relax. But rather than me telling you what a Reiki session might feel like, I thought I would share some words from women who have experienced Reiki with me.

A Space to Pause and Find Peace

We all move through different seasons in life. Sometimes we feel grounded and settled, while at other times we may find ourselves navigating change, emotional challenges, stress or uncertainty. It can be difficult to find a moment for ourselves when so much of our time and energy is given to others and to the demands of everyday life. Reiki offers an opportunity to step away from all of that for a little while. One client shared her experience after arriving feeling fragile because of recent life experiences:

“I arrived feeling a little fragile from recent life experiences. Susan worked her amazing magic and I left experiencing a new sense of peace ready to meet the next days challenge.”

These words are a beautiful reminder that sometimes we don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes we simply need a little space to rest, reconnect with ourselves and find a sense of calm from which to face whatever comes next.

An Oasis of Tranquility

Creating a welcoming and peaceful space is an important part of my practice. I want you to feel that, for the time you spend with me, you can put the outside world aside and give yourself permission to rest. Another client described her experience beautifully:

“Walking into her room is like stepping into an oasis of tranquility and I always leave feeling amazing and have the best sleep that night.”

And another shared:

“The moment I entered her healing room I felt a sense of peace and calm. Susan made me feel so welcome and her healing room is so beautiful. I didn’t want the session to finish. I felt I had stepped off the world for awhile.”

I love the way these experiences describe that feeling of stepping away from everyday life, even if only for an hour. You don't need to do anything special during a Reiki session. You can simply lie back, get comfortable and allow yourself to receive. Some people become deeply relaxed, some drift off to sleep, and others remain aware of the sensations or thoughts that arise. However you experience your session, there is no expectation to feel anything in particular.

When You Leave Feeling Lighter

Sometimes, giving ourselves the opportunity to slow down can also create room for reflection. Alongside Reiki, I offer intuitive guidance and readings and I often find that having a supportive space in which to explore what is happening in our lives can help us look at things from a different perspective.

One client who has experienced both Reiki and readings with me shared:

“Susan is amazing. She has such a gentle and understanding approach, is able to connect the dots for you and help you see things from a different perspective, and has this innate ability to leave you feeling so light and positive by the end of the session.”

For me, this speaks to the importance of feeling heard, supported and understood. We don't always need someone to tell us what to do. Sometimes, a little space to reflect, reconnect with our own intuition and consider a different perspective can be valuable in itself. While Reiki and intuitive readings are different experiences, both can offer an opportunity to pause and give attention to your own needs and wellbeing.

Listening to Your Body

Many of us carry stress and tension in our bodies, often without realising just how much we have been holding. During a Reiki session, you may notice warmth, tingling, a sense of stillness or deep relaxation. You may simply enjoy resting in a peaceful environment. Each person's experience is individual, and there is no guarantee of a particular sensation or outcome.

One client shared her experience of living with ongoing discomfort:

“My body’s aches and pains caused by years of stress and tension melt away.”

She also described noticing that pain in her hip and down her leg had eased by the following morning after her session.

I am grateful when clients share these experiences with me. They offer a glimpse into how they felt before and after receiving Reiki, while reminding us that every person's experience is different.

Reiki is a complementary wellbeing practice, not a medical treatment and individual experiences should not be taken as a promise of pain relief or other health outcomes. If you are experiencing ongoing pain or other symptoms, it is important to seek appropriate medical advice.

A Gentle Invitation to Receive

One of the things I appreciate most about the work I do is the trust someone places in me when they come for a session.

As one client wrote:

“Susan is a wonderful gifted person, who is intuitive and gentle in her approach. Her knowledge and skills, coupled with a calm, welcoming environment can only result in a positive experience.”

I feel very grateful for these words and for every woman who has allowed me to be part of her healing journey. My own relationship with Reiki continues to grow, not only through my work as a practitioner and teacher, but also through my personal practice. For me, Reiki is about creating space for connection, stillness and a deeper awareness of ourselves.

If you have been curious about Reiki but haven't experienced it before, you don't need to know what to expect. You don't need to have a particular belief, and you don't need to arrive feeling a certain way. You can come exactly as you are.

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, carrying the weight of a challenging time, or simply longing for a little space that is just for you.

My intention is to offer a calm, nurturing environment where you can slow down, rest and allow yourself to receive. Sometimes, taking that time for ourselves is a gentle reminder that we matter, too.

At Soul Journey: The Healing Touch, I offer Reiki as a space for you to pause, reconnect and nurture your own wellbeing.

With warmth and care,

Susan x
